Ctrl +F my brother. Although even that's probably more steps than you want.

Maybe this isn't Google but I've done searches before and my keyword gets highlighted all throughout the text on the page that gets brought up. It's actually a little overwhelming at times. Perhaps this was when doing some scientific literature searches on some other engines. I understand the desire though.

True that the act of dying might be "meaningless," but of course the meaning of that person's life is quite clear within minutes after. The sadness that fills people's hearts and eyes after that final breath is tangible. It is a feeling that never goes away after that loss, even though it might change a little with time. I have no doubt that when you think about your dad you think about not only his last moments, but also the countless other moments you spent with him during his all-too-short life. His life has meaning in the very thoughts and actions of all he has begotten; his legacy lives within his sons and his granddaughters. Similarly to the way you were "struck by how meaningless death can make a well lived life seem," I have always been struck by the amazing potential of birth. Every being starts with a clean slate, the closest we will ever possibly be to God during our lives on earth. If you think about it, much of our lives are spent trying to get back to this point. We humans spend our lives trying to make an impact and do something good or important. The irony is that we will probably never know what impact we have had on people before we die. Just as your family found out at your dad's visitations and funeral, though, our offspring will find out just how "good" and meaningful our lives were. And our connections to other people and our accomplishments will motivate them to be better people. So the world turns...

I was thinking about this some more and we could even use donations to purchase carbon credits to offset the flying that I do. Think about it, the flights would be going whether I'm on them or not, so we might as well offset their carbon emissions to help the planet at the same time as helping people.

Reading your thoughts on this made me think about "Common Decency." One saddening thought is the apathy that most people display towards conscious thinking. I think that the majority of people who smoke cigarettes, should they stop and consciously think about the ramifications of tossing a butt out the window or onto the ground, would just not care. "Well sure that all makes sense, but I just don't care." I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on apathy sometime.
